Matthew Hobson joined IYF in 2017 after working as Global Communication Designer for Bridge International Academies, an organization that operates more than 500 low-cost primary schools across Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Liberia, and India. At Bridge, Matt developed key communication strategies for launching Bridge Partnership Schools for Liberia—a public-private partnership initiative with the government of Liberia—and crafted written content, both digital and print, for use in all Bridge’s operating countries. Matt has traveled extensively in sub-Saharan Africa, most recently in Nigeria, meeting and collecting stories from Bridge parents, pupils, academy staff, and community members. For eight years prior to joining Bridge, he was an Assistant Professor of Writing at Loyola University Maryland, where he taught courses in rhetoric, poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Matt earned a BA in Philosophy from Pacific University, an MFA in Creative Writing from McNeese State University, and a PhD in English from Florida State University. His fiction and nonfiction have won numerous awards and appeared in national and international literary journals, most recently The Baltimore Review. At IYF, he contributes his communication expertise and wordsmithing skills as part of the MaC Team.
