Arafat joined IYF in 2018, bringing over five years of experience in youth development programs focusing on education, health, environment, and civic engagement. He has worked to empower young people on leadership, diplomacy, career guidance and life skills, and is passionate about ensuring youth are meaningfully engaged in social, economic and political development. Arafat has held various leadership positions with youth organizations in Tanzania, including a number of roles with the Youth of United Nations Association (YUNA) and serving as the Sustainable Development Goals Program Coordinator for Tanzania. As one of the first Global Master Champions trained by the United Nations Tanzania, he raises awareness and advocates for implementation of the sustainable development goals, focusing specifically on the importance of youth engagement, innovation, and creativity. Arafat is currently the East Africa Ambassador for Afrocacy, which is a Pan-African youth initiative of proud and patriotic Africans who envision a continent that is truly independent, self-sufficient and developed to take care of its people.

Arafat holds a Diploma in Customs and Taxation Management with a certificate in East African Customs Clearing and Freight Forwarding Practice from the Institute of Tax Administration Tanzania. He has received additional training on good governance, social audit, accountability, gender and women’s rights at MsTCDC University.
