Young Entrepreneurs (2012–2014)

Knowing there aren’t nearly enough formal jobs for the young people entering the labor market in India, we’ve worked to help youth create their own opportunities. In partnership with MasterCard and the Community Collective Society for Integrated Development (CCFID), we led the Young Entrepreneurs initiative in support of young men and women 15 to 29 years old in Delhi and Mumbai. Among other activities, Young Entrepreneurs offered participants business and life skills training, access to financial capital through a revolving loan fund, ongoing technical assistance, and links to mentors in the business community. Making a deep impact in individual lives, the initiative has helped young people like Pratibha see their monthly income increase five-fold.

  • 1,072 young people completed entrepreneurship skills training
  • 508 loans were given
  • 100% of the loans were repaid
  • 472 young people started businesses
  • 417 young people expanded their existing businesses

"Young Entrepreneurs honed my potential and taught me to encourage potential in others. I no longer just dream, but can see our business doing well."
—Pratibha, 23

With support from Young Entrepreneurs, Pratibha succeeded in reviving her family's struggling leather crafting business. In addition to receiving one of the over 500 loans disbursed through the program, Pratibha worked closely with a mentor to rebuild, rebrand, and redesign her family’s business.
