Emploi Habilité (2009-2020)

In 2009, 37 percent of Moroccan youth of working age (ages 15-29) were unemployed. While employment opportunities in the local private sector were growing, few young people were equipped with the skills employers demanded. Even when youth possessed relevant technical skills, they did not join the workforce with the necessary critical thinking, communication, and other performance skills they need to succeed. In response, IYF—in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, and with generous support from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, Silatech, and the Children and Youth Foundation—launched Emploi Habilité.

This project connected youth (ages 15-25) across Morocco with in-demand technical and life skills and jobs in the tourism, transportation, and logistics sectors. The project built upon IYF’s success with the Education and Employment Alliance and reached youth in vocational training institutes with our Passport to Success® life skills curriculum adapted to the local context by including modules such as conflict resolution, health education, and entrepreneurship.

Emploi Habilité benefitted vocational trainers as well as young people, offering them a highly interactive and refreshing way to engage with their students. After completing their holistic training program, graduates received one-on-one job placement support to help them find and keep jobs in Morocco’s growing tourism industry.
