Where We Work: Grenada

Through our Caribbean Youth Empowerment Program (CYEP), we offered marginalized young people in Grenada a holistic way of securing work and regaining hope.

In Grenada, CYEP reached 715 youth from the poorest parishes of the country. Priority was given to particularly vulnerable youth such as single mothers and those at risk of becoming involved in juvenile delinquency. CYEP supported them with market-driven technical, vocational, and life skills plus entrepreneurship training and career guidance. To create sustainable, long-lasting change, we also built our local partners’ institutional capacity and strengthened their ability to deliver services.

CYEP’s key implementing partners were: T.A. Marryshow Community College providing comprehensive vocational training and job placement services to at-risk youth; Grenada Industrial Development Corporation providing at-risk youth with entrepreneurship training and business support services; and New Life Organisation implementing CYEP’s vocational training and job placement model. Private sector and governmental partners included: Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Government of Grenada’s Market Access and Rural Enterprise Programme, the Ministry of Finance’s Office of Private Sector Development, The Grenada Development Bank, LIME, National Training Agency of Grenada, the Grenada Employers Federation, the Camerhogne Foundation and the Ministry of Youth.

Project achievements in Grenada include:

  • At ex-post, 50 percent of graduates were employed or poised to start a business within 2-6 months
  • 100 percent of employers expressed satisfaction with the youth they had hosted as interns or hired as entry level employees.
