Douglas Bell

Tanzania Project Director and Curriculum Development Specialist

Doug joined IYF in 2011 with 21 years experience in education and training.  His career actually began in anthropology doing cultural resource surveys, as well as cultural exhibition and museum education work with the Smithsonian Institution.  He later held several positions as an instructional designer and led the development of training programs in a variety of professional fields.  In 2003 he transitioned to international development work in education.  His specialty is in customizing local solutions, frequently integrating ICTs, to fit the local challenges that young people face.  He has designed, managed and evaluated education programs in Ethiopia, Somalia, Zambia, Kenya, Papua New Guinea and Laos, and for four years in India.  Currently he is based in Tanzania leading e-curriculum design for primary schools.  Doug earned his Bachelor of Art in Anthropology from George Mason University (1987) and Master of Education in Instructional Technology from the University of Virginia (1991).
