The Fundação da Juventude (FJ), established in 1989, is a leading national institution devoted to supporting the full integration of youth in active social and cultural life. FJ's major programs include youth entrepreneurship, training for employment, the arts, and science education. FJ's strongest program area is youth employment where it manages three projects: 1) training and job placement for approximately 250 youth per year; 2) grants for small enterprise development and 3) "Business Nests," or incubators where FJ provides office space and infrastructure to youth for up to three years while their businesses take shape. Other programs include psychological counseling, job training for young mothers, internships for second-year college students, organizing national science and environmental project competitions and managing artwork exhibits for contemporary young artists.
