The government entity responsible for youth remained unclear
following the elections in June 1992. At that time, family issues
became the responsibility of the Ministry of Labor and Social
Affairs, which was renamed the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs
and Family, while the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport
became the Ministry of Education and Science. The former
secretary of the latter ministry reportedly stated to
representatives of the Youth Council of Slovakia that youth do
not represent a specific social group and, therefore, no special
policy toward youth was needed. The lack of clear-cut
responsibility for youth has led NGO representatives of the NGOs
to lobby for the passage of the Youth Act. |
