Fundación Rostros y Voces
With more than a third of Mexico’s population living in poverty, Fundación Vamos was created in 1996 to offer new hope and opportunities for the nation’s poorest citizens. Vamos, renamed Fundación Rostros y Voces, bases its approach on the concept of partnership. It works to form alliances among government agencies, academic institutions, corporations, and grassroots groups, whereby all may work together to better the life prospects and opportunities of the poor.
That approach is now netting positive returns for the nation’s poor and generating increasing interest among a diverse array of contributing donors. Since it was created, the organization has supported more than 300 grassroots projects and mobilized more than $8 million annually in support of its efforts. As a result, more than 250,000 people have benefited—from accessing improved health care, obtaining relevant education, deepening their knowledge of human rights, developing new skills, and gaining access to job opportunities.
With a third of the nation’s population under the age of 15, Fundación Rostros y Voces devotes 40 percent of its annual budget to better meeting young people’s needs. It supports community-based efforts to equip the nation’s youngest citizens with the knowledge and skills to play important roles in their communities.
Central to Fundación Rostros y Voces’ efforts is strengthening the nonprofit sector in Mexico. Toward that end, it fosters networking opportunities among nonprofit organizations and promotes social responsibility among the business community. |
