Samsung Real Dreams

From 2008-2010, Samsung Real Dreams empowered African youth with the opportunities, tools, and training to realize their dreams. Working with local nongovernmental organizations in four countries, Samsung Real Dreams cultivated the technical, business, and soft skills of young entrepreneurs as well as new entrants into the labor market. Young participants learned job skills including computer literacy, web design, information and communications technology, office management, and other technical competencies. Additional job placement and enterprise development services helped participants turn their new skills into viable employment.

  • Over 7,000 youth participated in training interventions:
    • 2,628 in Egypt;
    • 2,114 in Kenya;
    • 1,194 in Nigeria;
    • 1,119 in South Africa;
  • Nearly 6,500 youth completed training (91% completion rate).
  • High youth satisfaction with the quality and relevance of training.
  • Between 63-81% of graduates become employed or self-employed within six months of completing training.
  • Between 78-100% of graduates reported earning more income as a result of participating in the program.
  • Kenyan graduates are earning more than three times the national minimum wage.

Nearly 70% of young entrepreneurs reported that their business incomes have been sufficient to cover business’ expenses.
