A two-year, US$2 million initiative, Obra (“work” in Spanish) was launched in 2009 with support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Building on foundational IYF programs such as entra21, Obra works to ensure youth at risk have improved access to the programs and services needed to prepare them for citizenship, work, and life. Through the creation of multi-sector alliances, Obra generates concrete opportunities for youth at risk, develops mechanisms for identifying and sharing best practices, and applies these practices in specific education and employability projects.
