Education Priorité Qualité (EPQ)

Work

Despite a strong emphasis on the value of work in the Senegalese culture, most youth in this country are ill-prepared to enter the local job market. In order to increase their opportunities to become successful professionals IYF is partnering with a Senegalese NGO, the Synapse Center, to launch the Education Priorité Qualité (EPQ) initiative. Through EPQ, IYF has adapted its Passport to Success life skills and employability curriculum to the culture and employment needs of the local community. EPQ has trained middle school teachers and NGO leaders to implement the program to benefit both in-school and out-of-school youth in the regions of Ziguinchor, Sédhiou, Kolda, and Kédougou.

Under the EPQ project, the following results have been achieved to date:
  • More than 121 middle school teachers and NGO leaders have received training in a relevant and interactive life skills and employability curriculum, reaching 4,080 youth.
  • The capacity of schools and local NGOs is being strengthened to be better equipped to support youth professional development.
