Between 250,000 to 300,000 students drop out of middle school each year in the Fès-Boulemane and Doukkala-Abda regions of Morocco. The ITQANE project (Improving Training for Quality Advancement in National Education, which also means "perfection" in Arabic) seeks to reverse this trend through improving the quality of teacher training and student learning in area middle schools. According to a report issued by the Moroccan Ministry of Education, 35% of middle school dropouts cite educational quality as a critical factor leading to their abandonment of formal school. To help improve the quality of teaching and relevance of educational content, IYF has adapted its Passport to Success life skills curriculum to address the needs of Moroccan middle school students, and is delivering its content through the teachers during their extra-curricular activities.
