Graphic Designer (Temporary - 9 months)

PURPOSE
To assist the Creative Team in conceptualizing, designing and delivering print and online communications materials for IYF’s diverse audience groups. 

SUMMARY
The International Youth Foundation (IYF), a global nonprofit organization that works to improve the lives and conditions of young people worldwide, is seeking a Temporary/Part-time Graphic Designer (9 months) to assist the Creative Team in conceptualizing, designing and delivering print and online communications materials for IYF’s diverse audience groups. The ideal candidate will have a compelling portfolio that demonstrates his/her strength in publication design and typography, ability to examine all aspects of a design problem, and strategic thinking and conceptualization skills. RESPONSIBILITIES
-Working closely with the Creative Director and/or Creative Manager:

• Design and layout publications, including, but not limited to, reports, assessments, brochures, and curricula.
• Format documents in Word and PowerPoint accordance with branding requirements as needed.
• Assist in the design and creation of graphics for use on IYF websites, including program microsites.
• Design logos for new programs and corresponding visual identity guidelines
• Create collateral materials for events, such as banners, invitations, programs, PowerPoint presentations, email banners and name tags.
• Source photographs for use on websites and in publications.
• Assist in the design and creation of html newsletters and/or other communications products to be disseminated via email.

-Assist graphic designers with other design tasks as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Masters degree in graphic design or related field; or equivalent academic and work experience.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (CS5.5 or newer), specifically Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop on a Mac.
• Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Pro.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
• Ability to examine all aspects of a design problem and provide elegant solutions that support the IYF house of brands.
• Strong in publication design, with excellent typography skills.
• A firm grasp of production requirements for print vs online use.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills.
• Strong strategic thinking and conceptualizing skills.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills and strong interpersonal skills. 
• Highly organized, with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, and collaborate with team members.
• Experience in meeting goals amidst competing priorities and tight deadlines.
• Experience working with branding guidelines.
• Fluency in a second language, particularly Arabic, a plus.
• Experience in designing for a variety of geographies/cultures a plus.
• A compelling portfolio.

LOCATION
Baltimore, MD USA

DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT
Temporary assignment:  May – December 2013
3 days/week (excluding Mondays)
