Leader's Guide

The leaders guide compliments the training provided to youth leaders when they impart the curriculum. The leaders guide has lesson design which contains for each lesson, information that is needed for the leader to prepare to teach the lesson and actual instructions for conducting the lesson. The leaders guide lists out teaching skills and strategies, guidelines to engage with participants with limited reading and writing abilities

Deepika, Vidya and Child

Deepika Bhadauria, a life skills trainer from a Delhi based NGO called Vidya & Child shares her experience on the life skills programme. She has been imparting life skills to students from class 6 and above, and she feels that her relationship with the students has gradually transformed from being a teacher to becoming a confidante.
 

Janaki Chaudhary, Vice President, India Growth Team, GE Money

Janaki has been the driving force in GE for the life skills programme. Janaki explains the role that GE Volunteers had played in evaluating the programme and in linking youth participating in the programme to jobs. She hopes that the programme enables the maximum number of youth to reach their highest potential.
 

Joshy Jose, Master Trainer, HOPE Foundation

Joshy describes the skills he picked up in the life skills master training progranmme that he attended. He speaks about how he has learnt the use of different teaching methodologies, and underscores his experience that life skills has enable the youth in HOPE Foundation to be hopeful about the future. He is confident that there is no limit to the impact of the programme.
 

Kuldeep, Trainer, Prayas

Kuldeep, has been involved in the life skills programme for 3 years now, and is one of the most enthusiastic proponents of the programme. He enjoys a wonderful rapport with the youth he trains, and he talks about why he would set apart the life skills training of trainers programme from other training programmes that he has attended.
 

Training of Trainers Session

Joshy, one of the master trainers, trains a group of you the educators to become life skills trainers, and who would then go on to impart life skills to youth in their respective NGOs.
Joshy explains the goal of the life skills programme, and participants go on to introducing themselves, through an icebreaker, and paired discussions in one of the much enjoyed community building session.
 

Nanni Singh, Executive Director, Youthreach

Nanni takes us through the journey of the life skills programme in India, which has been anchored by Youthreach. She explains the rationale of the programme, which seeks to enable youth to identify their potential, manage relationships, deal with intolerances and disharmonies and to experience and nurture the inner bloom.
 
 

Sudesh, Trainer, SNS Foundation

Sudesh was part of the first batch of trainers to be trained in the life skills programme. She has since, been involved in imparting life skills to youth in school and those who have dropped out of school. When space was not available for her to conduct life skills classes, she would conduct classes in the courtyard and in the village headman’s house.

Sudesh from SNS foundation conducts the lesson on hygiene and dress, to a group of 9th grade students of a senior secondary school in Gurgaon. Watch the girls make presentations, speak their mind and engage in group activity.
 

Life skills Class conducted at HOPE Foundation

Youth, who have dropped out of school and are currently enrolled in the office management/printing technology programme at HOPE Foundation, are taken through the lesson titled ‘Interviewing for a job’. Among other things, the youth learn to look at an interview from the perspective of an employer and the interviewee, and to discuss the kind of jobs they would like to interview for.

Watch Deepak, Nirmala, Manju, Manita and Satish share their experiences of participating in the life skills programme. They speak about how their confidence levels have risen, and how they have been able to overcome their inhibitions.
