Communications Coordinator

PURPOSE
To assist the Vice President, SPOT in the coordination of department work flows, facilitate the internal communications of the team, and provide support to the editorial and new media teams as well as general administrative support to the department. 

SUMMARY
The International Youth Foundation (IYF), a global nonprofit organization that works to improve the lives and conditions of young people worldwide, is seeking a Communications Coordinator to support the communications and outreach efforts  as indicated below.  The ideal candidate will be a detail oriented, self-starter with a strong interest in communications and marketing, with an aptitude for writing and editing, as well as a commitment to global youth development.  This full-time position will be based in Baltimore, MD.  For more information please consult www.iyfnet.org.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Vice President, SPOT to coordinate department work flows, project assignments and related calendars among the various teams within SPOT as well as between SPOT and other departments within IYF.
  • Assist the editorial team in producing compelling, relevant and factually-correct content for timely distribution to IYF audiences, including maintaining the editorial calendar, conducting research, editing/proofreading content, drafting letters, fact sheets, success stories and/or other original content, as assigned. 
  • Assist the new media team in the maintenance of the organization’s social media channels in accordance with IYF strategy and guidelines, including monitoring on-line discussions, drafting and posting appropriate content, preparing analytics reports using Google Analytics and/or other measurement tools.
  • Assist in event logistics in close coordination with other staff, including the coordination of invitation lists and on-line registration; the production of required collateral materials; site preparation; social media outreach; and post-event follow up, as needed.
  • Coordinate the timely distribution of IYF publications by working with appropriate IYF staff to develop targeted mailing lists and engaging services of external mailing house, as needed.
  • Provide general and administrative support to the SPOT department on an as-needed basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or other related area preferred.
  • 2-3 years of work experience in a communications-related capacity, ideally within youth development, a non-profit, or other international organization preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required, along with a strong interest in and aptitude for writing and editing.  
  • Superior organization, planning and project management skills. 
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and strong interpersonal skills.  
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team, as well as an ability to carry out tasks independently. Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to identify and establish priorities, work independently, and exercise sound judgment related to providing support and assistance.
  • Ability to identify problems in a timely manner, make recommendations toward solving problems, and work well in group problem solving situations.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills are required. Thorough knowledge and experience in building office systems, filing systems, and general office procedures preferred.  
  • Possess outstanding interpersonal communication skills which must be effective and courteous, requiring high integrity when dealing with a broad array of cultures and languages 
  • Proficient in the use of the full Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Basecamp or other online project management tools, preferred.
  • Excellent command of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media tools.
