Baltimore, MD. The World Bank is highlighting entra21, an employability initiative of the International Youth Foundation (IYF), in its publication series entitled Youth Development Notes. Today’s youth make up “the largest cohort ever to enter the transition to adulthood,” and through this series of brief reports, the World Bank shares research findings and lessons from the field that address significant issues facing young people worldwide. “Preparing Youth for 21st Century Jobs” – the topic of the December 2006 Youth Development Notes -- describes how entra 21 helps at-risk youth, across Latin America and the Caribbean succeed in the job market by providing them with technical and personal training, internships, and job placement assistance.
“Nearly 90% of today’s young people live in developing countries and face multiple social and economic challenges” says Bill Reese, President and CEO of IYF. “The World Bank is responding to the growing need for sound policy advice on these issues through publications like Youth Development Notes, and we are pleased that they decided to showcase entra21 as an effective and innovative program.”
