IYF Receives Award through MacArthur Foundation's
Digital Media and Learning Competition

The International Youth Foundation’s YouthActionNet® was among 17 projects to receive grants through the Digital Media and Learning Competition funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Selected from a pool of 1,000-plus applicants, the YouthActionNet® Marketplace will provide young leaders with a digital networking platform to engage in social entrepreneurship and address urgent societal problems.

“The ubiquitous nature of digital media has profound implications for learning that we are only just beginning to understand,” said Jonathan Fanton, President of the MacArthur Foundation in announcing the competition results. “The 17 winners represent the best thinking from many disciplines and professions working to harness the power of the web for learning.”

“We are extremely honored to be among the winners of the competition,” said IYF President and CEO William S. Reese. “Technology is enabling today’s young social entrepreneurs to connect and contribute like never before. We look forward to creating a vibrant networking platform where young leaders can seed ideas, gather feedback, raise resources, and make their social change visions a reality.”

The competition is part of the MacArthur Foundation’s five-year, $50 million digital media and learning initiative designed to help determine how digital technologies are changing the way young people learn, play, socialize, and participate in civic life. Winners receive funding for a year of work and will share their results on a public website, as well as at a conference next year.
