On August 14, U.S. Congresswoman Nita Lowey of New York visited a job training program sponsored by the International Youth Foundation in Rabat, Morocco. Speaking with a number of youth participants and their employers, Congresswoman Lowey was accompanied by Jane Casewit, Education Development Assistance Specialist USAID/Morocco, and Mr. Nawfal Fassi-Fihri, CEO of the Education for Employment Foundation, which offers the “Workplace Success” program. An activity of the Moroccan Education for Employment Alliance (MEEA), the employability initiative is supported through a US$600,000 grant from USAID to bridge the training gap among Moroccan youth.
MEEA is part of the Education & Employment Alliance (EEA), which develops public-private alliances to improve opportunities for young people in Egypt, India, Indonesia, Morocco, Pakistan and the Philippines. EEA convenes partners from the government, business, and nonprofit sectors to explore education and employment challenges for youth, learn from existing efforts, and identify gaps in current programming.
