International Youth Foundation Releases Two New Learning Reports

According to one of its latest publications, the International Youth Foundation reports that life skills programs can play a valuable role in addressing the needs of young people growing up in high-risk environments.  Part of IYF’s Field Notes series, this newest report recognizes that such programs can increase young people’s resilience to negative influences in their lives and enhance their ability to contribute to their communities.

Reaching Out to Youth in High-risk Environments” offers readers practical insights into delivering services to young people in these communities,  actively engaging them, and building their trust.  Highlighted in the study are the experiences of IYF partner organizations in Mexico, Peru, and the United Kingdom which participate in IYF’s global youth development initiative with Nokia.  “We are able to make the greatest difference in the lives of vulnerable youth,” explains Sophie Wood of the National Children’s Bureau in the UK.  Through NCB’s Life Routes program, out-of-school-youth in ten locations across that country are acquiring skills for life ranging from teamwork and respect for others to critical thinking.  Click here to download this report.

Another recently released Field Notes, “Recruiting and Screening Program Participants,” emphasizes the knowledge gained by IYF partners in Nigeria, Poland and Venezuela in identifying and selecting youth program participants.  The learning report offers important guidance on how to effectively publicize program offerings, including the development of media partnerships, NGO alliances, and the active engagement of program alumni.  Click here to download this report.
