After participating to the “¡Camara! Ahi nos vemos” program where she learnt basic cinematography, Itzel Pereda Barrios, 15, produced her own documentary film “Ellos no viven, sobreviven” ( They don't live, They survive). In this heart-wrenching film, Itzel portrays life of street children in Mexico through her insightful lens with testimonies from the children themselves and from professionals that are working to address this growing problem. In January 2007, Itzel documentary won 1st Place in the Youth category at the 1st Latin American Festival for Children and Youth Cinema.
“¡Camara! Ahi nos vemos” is part of the IYF-Nokia initiative launched in 2000 to promote the positive development of young people through nurturing 12 key life skills, including self-confidence, communication, conflict resolution and team work.
