Job Purpose
The International Youth Foundation (IYF) is a nonprofit organization that seeks to improve the conditions and prospects of children and youth around the world. IYF is currently seeking a Teacher Training Coordinator for the two-year Bridgeit Tanzania project. The project seeks to increase the educational quality and achievement among boys and girls in primary schools in math, science, and life skills through the innovative use of cell phone and digital technology.
Job Responsibilities
The Teacher Training Coordinator’s role will be to plan and help facilitate the teacher training workshops for the Bridgeit Project and serve as a resource to teachers and communities. During the first year of the project, the Teacher Training Coordinator will work with IYF staff and government and private sector partners to assess teachers’ capacities and needs and organize training sessions; in the second year, he/she will focus on the coordination and facilitation of training sessions for nearly 1,000 teachers, serve as a resource for teachers as they implement new programs in their classrooms, and work closely with the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training as well as the Tanzania Institute of Education.
Specific Tasks
The Teacher Training Coordinator will be responsible for the following specific tasks:
- Travel to the field and assess the capacity and needs of local teachers;
- Participate in curriculum review and lesson planning workshops in order to understand the video and lesson content and be able to design trainings;
- Work with IYF Staff, Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MoEVT), FAWE and Pearson Foundation to design, organize, and facilitate teacher training workshops;
- In consultation with MoEVT and TIE identify master teacher trainers, who will then conduct the training at the local level;
- Provide support to the teachers and communities that are implementing the Bridgeit project;
- Liaise with Curriculum Development Specialist on feedback obtained from the field on the developed contents.
- In collaboration with other IYF Bridgeit staff coordinate efforts to document achievement registered as well as challenges in implementing Bridgeit for shared learning purposes.
- Participate in select monitoring visits, as well as formative and summative project evaluations;
- Participate in periodic meetings and phone calls, as needed, in order to ensure effective project communication and planning;
- Other duties as assigned.
Reporting and key relationships
- Supervised by the Bridgeit Chief Advisor;
- Work closely with IYF staff in Tanzania and Baltimore, local Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MoEVT), Tanzania Institute for Education (TIE), and FAWE-TZ.
Qualification Requirements:
Professional Qualifications
- Tanzanian teaching certification required.
- 3-5 years of experience in the education field, preferably actual teaching experience.
- Experience designing and facilitating teacher trainings.
- Knowledge of Tanzanian educational system and experience working with the MoEVT and TIE.
- Experience in working with international NGOs in education-related projects is desirable.
Personal Characteristics
- Must be a self starter, who takes initiative and works with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work well in a team.
- Flexible, adaptable and able to work well under pressure.
- Fluent in English and Kiswahili with excellent written and oral communication skills.
