Empowering Africa's Young People's Initiative (EAYPI) Program Officer

Location: Kampala, Uganda

Supervisor: EAYPI/Uganda Project Director

Job Purpose

The purpose of this position is to provide technical support to local NGO partners, both at the headquarters and field levels, to develop their capacity to manage, implement and report on HIV/AIDS prevention and peer education activities as IYF sub-grantees. The Program Officer will provide training and mentoring, both on the job and via workshops, and support overall monitoring and evaluation of the project.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits to NGO partners to assess project implementation and monitor results.
  • Design and facilitate training sessions that support quality programs.
  • Provide technical assistance, as needed, to ensure the successful implementation of project activities.
  • Assist partners with the development of annual work plans and budgets.
  • Work with partners to develop and implement systems to accurately collect project data.
  • Ensure partners are familiar with IYF and USAID reporting requirements and submit timely monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Maintain an updated project database at IYF field office and provide support to the implementing partners in maintaining theirs.
  • Provide technical expertise and work with the sub-grantees to analyze project data and information with the aim of identifying positive trends and promising practices and informing overall project implementation.
  • Take the lead in compiling the quarterly, biannual and annual reports for submission to the MEEPP, USAID mission, and Baltimore.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of lessons learned by contributing articles, human interest stories, etc. to IYF HQ and the USAID Mission.
  • Other programmatic duties as may be assigned by the Project Director or IYF

Personal Characteristics:

  • Must be a self starter who takes initiative and is able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time within Uganda.

Reporting and key relationships

  • Supervised by the EAYPI/Uganda Project Director

Qualification Requirements:

  • University Degree in health, social sciences or other related field. A Master’s Degree in Public Health would be an added advantage.
  • Computer literate in Word, Excel and PowerPoint and MS Access.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working with a local or international NGO, ideally in a youth peer education, HIV, or reproductive health program. Experience in designing and conducting participatory training workshops.
  • Prior experience working with USAID-funded projects or PEPFAR highly desirable
