Baltimore, Maryland, USA: The International Youth Foundation officially announced that Andrea Bosch has joined the global non-profit organization as Vice President of Education. Dr. Bosch -- who comes to IYF with more than 20 years experience in improving education for young people -- will lead IYF’s Education Center, one of four programmatic areas that IYF is supporting within its broader framework of positive youth development. The initiatives within the center all work to ensure that children and youth, both in and out of school, have access to quality education and increased opportunities to learn.
“IYF is exceedingly fortunate to have someone of Andrea’s caliber join our mission to promote positive youth development,” said Bill Reese, IYF’s President and CEO. “She is both a creative strategist and pragmatic leader who already has made a significant contribution to the quality of learning and teaching in underserved schools and communities worldwide. We shall benefit greatly from her experience and commitment.”
Most recently living and working in Bangalore, India, Dr. Bosch was Chief of Party for Education Development Center’s (EDC) dot-EDU project, which was tasked with using technologies to improve the quality of education in three states of India. By the time she left this summer, the project was reaching almost 15 million students in four states through interactive radio instruction, innovative computer programs, and television programming.
Dr. Bosch has spent more than 10 years at EDC directing programs that promote educational quality, equity, and enhanced learning among students and teachers around the world. She has championed the successful use of instructional technologies and the media to reach disenfranchised children and help address critical social issues in early and primary education and gender equity.
“I’m excited to join an organization that has demonstrated such success in public-private sector collaboration,” said Dr. Bosch. “It’s an area where new and creative ideas are needed and IYF’s contribution has been significant.”
Dr. Bosch comes to IYF with a diversity of experience. Earlier in her career in the United States, Dr. Bosch developed a mental health program for migrant children up and down the east coast through the East Coast Migrant Head Start. Since that time, she has worked extensively in Bolivia, Guatemala, South Africa, the Philippines, Honduras, Thailand, India, Laos, Cuba, and a number of other countries to improve the quality and equity of education for children and youth in the most difficult situations.
Dr. Bosch received her BA from Duke University, a Masters in Education/Administration from Harvard University and a PhD in Education from Stanford University. She has written extensively on girls’ education, innovative applications of technology and the need to improve the quality of education around the world.
