MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE

Minister: Eva Slavkovska

The ministry announces annual grants to "Programs of Protection and Support for Youth." These consist of two types of projects: projects with a worldwide scope and projects with a regional or interregional scope.

The ministry's financial resources for youth organizations and grant programs has been declining sharply. If inflation is taken into consideration, the reduction in the funds available is even more striking. Allocations for this purpose have dropped from 92 million crowns in 1992, to 50 million crowns in 1993 and 24 million crowns in 1994.

The structure of expenditures regarding subsidies for NGOs in 1994 was as follows:

State Fund for Physical Culture: 17,000,000 crowns
Official representation of the state: 96,000,000 crowns
Science and research: 180,000,000 crowns
Youth organizations: 24,000,000 crowns

Great enthusiasm, a willingness to work, and a broad background with information services are evident at the Institute of Information and Prognosis of the ministry. The institute manages an extensive database on the project-grant submissions of the ministry. A uniform information system on youth is being developed (contact person: Dr. Slovikova).
