1. Christian Children's Fund: The Christian Children's Fund, an international NGO based in the United States, began to work in Mexico more than 20 years ago. Traditionally it managed resources from individual sponsors for children and young people in need from different parts of the world. In 1990, CCF decided to decentralize its operations in Mexico City and establish small structures for monitoring and evaluation in different parts of the country. Two centers for supervision and monitoring were set up in Oaxaca, one in the city of Oaxaca, the other in Huajupan de León. The local organizations supported through these centers offer health services, food, education, culture, and recreation. The supervisors also help the local groups obtain additional resources from embassies and other organizations, such as the organization Gente Nueva.
2. Save the Children: Save the Children is another NGO focused on children and young people, based in the United States and several European countries. In Mexico, Save the Children fostered the creation of autonomous Mexican organizations called Fondos de Apoyo Infantil, which collect and channel resources to programs carried with their financing. At present there are Fondos de Apoyo Infantil in Sonora, the Federal District, and Guanajuato. According to directors of the FAI in Mexico City, there is interest in creating a fund in the state of Oaxaca. To date, the organizations affiliated with Save the Children in the Netherlands and Sweden support CANICA and Piña Palmera, respectively.
Several international foundations and donors support specific initiatives and programs for the children and youth of Oaxaca. They include:
- CARITAS (Netherlands)
- Kinderen in de Knell (Netherlands)
- Bernard Van Leer Foundation (Netherlands)
- Stiching Kinderpostzegels
- Grant for the Project of Deaf Children (Sweden)
- U-ASSIST (Netherlands)
